This unique wildwater gorge in the heart of the Dachstein massif

Raging water, challenging hiking trails, as well as 3 via ferrata and delicious organic food

Through a beautifully constructed path with bridges and steps, you walk into the valley as the wild water rushes past you. The origin of all this water violence is a beautiful waterfall that springs from the steep rock walls, this is fed by the water of the Silberkarsee on top of the Dachstein massif. Next, the Silberkar opens up and you set foot in a beautiful valley with beautiful, wild nature, alpine plants and animals in the rushing gorge's own eco-system. After about 35 minutes and 200 altitude metres, you will reach the Silberkar hut at 1250 metres. The gorge is only accessible in summer, as rock and snow avalanches make it inaccessible almost every winter. The gorge's entrance fee is used to repair the access, as parts of the steps and paths are destroyed by natural disasters every year. In 1999, a snow avalanche even destroyed the Silberkarhütte to the extent that the roof was completely torn open and the hut was totally destroyed inside. This year also saw the first use of a helicopter to supply building materials. Normally, the hut is supplied by a small cable car that runs from the car park up to the hut.
